Awards and Honors

The IOMP recognizes individuals whose career achievements have made major contributions to the field of medical physics and the international community.  The two major awards presented during each World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering are:

The Marie Sklodowska-Curi Award

Harold Johns Medal

Each award recipient will receive travel expenses to attend the World Congress provided by the award sponsor.


Nominations for 2006 Awards Deadline, October 31, 2005

Nominating and Selection Procedure
The awards will be presented at each IOMP World Congress. Individuals eligible for selection shall be nominated either by an IOMP adhering organization or by the IOMP Committee Chairs and/or the IOMP Officers. All nominations shall be submitted with supporting materials to the Chair of the IOMP Awards and Honors Committee (at awards@iomp.org ) by the established deadline before each World Congress.. The Committee will review all supporting documentation for each of the nominees and conduct a ballot among its members to determine the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd candidates for each award. In case of a tie for 1st, a second ballot between the tied candidates will be conducted. If this second ballot should also result in a tie, the Awards Committee Chair shall make the selection between the tied candidates. The Committee Chair will notify the IOMP Secretary General of the 1st choice candidate for the award at least 6 months before the planned World Congress meeting. The Secretary General is responsible for notifying the candidate. The Chair of the Awards and Honors Committee is charged with making the necessary arrangements with the candidate for presentation of the award. If the candidate decides not to accept the award, it shall revert to the 2nd candidate.

The nomination for each award shall consist of:

  1. A CV of the candidate (Not more than four(4) pages).

  2. A letter of nomination outlining the accomplishments of the candidate that support the nomination (Not more than two(2) pages.

The Marie Sklodowska-Curi Award

The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Award is established to honor scientists who have distinguished themselves by their contributions in:
1. education and training of medical physicists, medical students, medical residents, and allied health personnel; and/or
2. advancement of medical physics knowledge based upon independent original research and/or development; and/or
3. advancement of the medical physics profession in the IOMP adhering national and international organizations.
